Green Challenge

Paper or Plastic? Take the Canvas Challenge! 100 billion disposable shopping bags are consumed every year in the US. This is 200,000 bags per minute, or about 60 plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store for the average family. And of all those plastic bags, only 1% is recycled, while the remaining 99% pollute the environment, and harm wildlife when animals mistake them for food.

Rock-Paper-Score! E-mail

This isn’t a game, and this isn’t a joke: it is now possible to make durable, waterproof, biodegradable, recyclable paper from rocks. Taiwan Lung Meng Tech Co Ltd has found a way to make quality paper from stones, and now holds patents in 40 countries.

This new technology doesn’t use trees, doesn’t use bleach or acid,  and doesn’t pollute neither water nor air. It uses only stone powder, infused with a non-toxic resin. The result is a paper that looks like traditional pulp paper, and almost feels like it too, if not for a slightly limp hold (Just Live Greener is fortunate enough to have a sample of this mineral rich paper right here on our desk). LM Tech products include paper for ink-jet, food packaging (such as trays and boxes) and presswork.

Some other noteworthy facts: this new paper will crack like an egg shell when exposed to direct sunlight for about 6 months. But it will not photodegrade in your home when kept indoors and away from sunlight. Last, but not least, LM Paper Products can be recycled by converting used paper into pellets, themselves used in the production of colored paper. Make sure not to recycle it with pulp paper. Click here to find out more about this eco-friendly company.

Their US distributor does not have a working website yet, but you can visit their Australian counterpart, www.rock-paper.com, to get more specific details about their revolutionary products. Just Live Greener will update this page as soon as products are available for sale in the US.
