Colleges and universities own stocks of companies - often millions, or even billions - in their endowments. As a large institutional shareholders, the University of California has the power to use their investments to push for the progressive elimination of corporate practices that are detrimental to society and the environment. The UC Responsible Investing Coalition is recommending that the UC Board of Regents become more active shareholders, to adopt responsible proxy voting guidelines, and to consider forming a committee of students, alumni, and faculty on responsible investing.
