40% of landfills are made of plain old paper! When compacted in a landfill, paper can take several decades to biodegrade, meanwhile producing methane, a nasty greenhouse gas with a heat trapping capacity 23 times greater than that of carbon dioxide. Another reason why we all must recycle.

You already know of a few sources of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power. Can you name six more?

Hats down for you if you said: biofuel, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, tidal power and wave power.

 

Currently, 7% of US electricity comes from hydropower and only less than 2% comes from other renewable sources, according to Greenpeace.
