Simple Vinaigrette To Polish Your Furniture E-mail
Tuesday, 24 March 2009 13:26

Store-bought furniture polish is very harmful to our health and our environment. Made of mineral oil (petroleum), they are also very flammable and can contain chemicals such as methanol (a strong greenhouse gas which can cause permanent blindness) or

nitrobenzene (a highly toxic compound readily absorbed through the skin) and are thus considered hazardous waste when no longer usable.

Why use something so harmful when you can make your very own green furniture polish in your kitchen? Mix ½ cup of vinegar with one teaspoon of olive oil (any inexpensive, low-grade olive oil will do perfectly) in a spray bottle. Shake, and spray on a clean, soft rag: it will pick up the dust and polish your furniture safely. If your furniture looks to oily, simply reduce the amount of olive oil. If the smell of vinegar turns you off, add just a few drops of your favorite essential oil scent (lavender, eucalyptus...). Happy polishing.
